New ArtRage Pro Update!

Just in time.  ArtRage Studio was updated to 3.5.  Big news, for me is,

"Multithreading: Supports multicore processors, spawning multiple threads while it works to speed up tools and many other processes in the application."

Few other items on the list that look like great improvements:
  1. Palette Knife Loading: The Blade and Edge Palette Knives can now be loaded with paint before use, allowing you to create smooth flat strokes of paint on the canvas.
    1. (Studio Pro) Loaded Palette Knives have additional control over angle during painting.
  2. Soft Media Adjustment: Chalks, Crayons, and Pencils have been softened to improve their interaction with the canvas texture.
  3. (Studio Pro) Airbrush Controls: Controls for stroke hardness and spatter have been added to the airbrush.

I am working on a Orc battle scene (using the techniques I used in Eye of Intuos and Lone Orc ) however using color.  I'll post some WIP.

I have lots of drawing tutorials downloaded for study.  Been working on some non-digital drawing exercises.  Also signed up for my first Art class at the local community college (where I teach part time) .. a drawing 101 course.

Drawing School

Completing Eye of Intuos and Lone Orc really fired me up to getting back to drawing and improving my basics drawing skills.

First thing I did was join Drawing Tutorials Online.  Very impressed with the lessons, content and community.

Areas I like to improve in and learn:
  1. Drawing human anatomy
  2. Still life  (life drawing)
  3. Landscapes and perspective
Also.  Getting back to paper .. real paper.  I'm not dumping digital.  I want to supplement it with some exercises and sketches in a sketchbook.
I already have a sketchpad and the two mechanical pencils (0.9 and a 0.5) I've used in the past and comfortable with.

I still will be doing most my work in ArtRage and that will still be my memory drawings (fantasy, etc) still I hope by working on the goals above it will improve what I have been currently doing.

Above all..

Draw .. draw .. draw.

The Snake and Spear

I seem to be going back to drawing with ArtRage and the new Wacom.  I did open in Corel Painter 12 to try out some light coloring and lighting effects.

This is a huge Frank Frazetta influence on this drawing.  I call it the Snake and Spear.

Kicking around lots of sketches

Doing lots of sketches in ArtRage on both iPad and on Mac.  Also, started one painting in ArtRage and another in Painter 12 (wanted to see how painter 12 handles).

Still nothing seems to be carrying me over from draft sketch to a final painting.  I have a few started works.

I’ll keep at it and one will jump out to be finished.

SketchBook Pro

I feel little guilty (As I'm a huge ArtRage Fan) when I purchases a copy of Sketchbook Pro for my iPad.  It has some great features and, and doing a few quick sketches, seems to be a great drawing tool.

Guess I'm just feeling-out different applications to do art with.

Next Painting - Female Orc

Figured I try my hand at a female orc.  I though of one defending her homestead with a spear.  Don't have a background however may do a burning hut to help tell the story.  The background fire will make good back lighting.  I may tweak the eyes and mouth for more ferocity when I paint.

Did up a sketch on the iPad..

They be Orcs!

Ran across this series little bit ago and was very intrigued. I was waiting for some reviews and the audio books and the CDs to hit the local library. Now with three audio books out on Audible.com that had, in my opinion, good looking reviews. No idea when library will get the CDs; I re-uped my Audible subscription to and got the first in the series.

Audible Book

I'm a few chapters in; love it so far. Narrator, John Lee, sounds great. and it’s the kind of fantasy fest I love.  And its about ORCS!

The author Stan Nicholls has web site for all his work. Here is a link to his Orcs page.

I love to do a cover art for him. Stan .. need some cover art?
